Research

I am broadly interested in the ecology, conservation, and management of fishes and their habitats. The focal species for my research are stream salmonids, which lend themselves nicely to the study of individual performance, population dynamics, and their relationships with the stream ecosystem. Topics that I am interested in include

Population ecology: To what extent are populations limited by abiotic factors, and under which conditions does demographic density dependence regulate populations?

Riverscape ecology: How does the physiographic setting of a stream influence its hydromorphology, and how does it affect habitat use by fishes?

Anthropogenic effects: How do land use, hydrologic alterations, and climate change affect stream habitats and the biota therein?

Individual-population relationships: How is individual phenotypic and behavioral variation affecting - and affected by - population dynamics?
